Ravelco Anti-Theft Device Frequently Asked QuestionsWhy would I need a Ravelco? My vehicle already has a factory alarm? The remote "keyless entry" capability for locking and unlocking the doors of a vehicle with an alarm system is a great option to have, but as far as security is concerned, the remote control alarm system only interrupts the starter wire, and this can easily be bypassed under the dash. Electronic "code grabbers" or "scanner boxes" can defeat any alarm system made today in seconds! Even the alarms that claim to have Anti-Scan or Code Grabbing Technology were still defeated. But the salesman told me my vehicle already has a factory anti-theft device...built into it's ignition key! GM's PASSlock II, FORD's SecuriLock, CHRYSLER’s SentryKey and TOYOTA’s Engine Immobilizer - These transponder based anti theft systems consist of a computer chip imbedded in the ignition key itself which emits a signal to the vehicle’s computer system in the steering column to identify the "real" ignition key and allow the vehicle to start. These systems are factory installed, on almost all the new GM, FORD, CHRYSLER and TOYOTA vehicles, at no charge. These systems keep honest people honest and are very easy to bypass. All a thief has to do is cut the black wire in the three wire ribbon cable located under the dash and measure the resistance between the black wire and the yellow starter wire with a volt meter. They then touch the two wires with the matching resistor and the vehicle will start. This sounds complicated, but only takes about 20 seconds to defeat . . . which is probably why the factory installs these systems free. These systems are not very effective and they are bypassed all the time. Recently, a national automotive magazine published information on how to bypass these systems. Some salespeople tell their customers that because of this factory installed system, they do not need any extra security for their vehicle, but this is not true! My car salesman said if I installed any aftermarket equipment on my vehicle other than the factory equipment, it would void my warranty. Is this true? No, this is not true! A Federal Law (Magnuson - Moss Act) protects you against a car dealer voiding your warranty. Many car dealers use this threat to frighten you into buying a more expensive anti theft system from them. Why is the Ravelco larger than most of the flat plug and key type anti-theft devices? In order to maintain two separate major circuits and to handle the amperage put out by the electrical systems on most of today's vehicles, the Ravelco cannot be made any smaller. Other anti theft devices offer only four to six different code combinations; The Ravelco has over 100,000! That is why it also has a zero failure rate! Why doesn't the Ravelco have a "red flashing light" to help ward off thieves? There are numerous vehicles stolen every day that have full blown alarm systems, including the ones with the red flashing warning lights, which proves that the only red lights that car thieves run from are the ones on top of police cars! The Ravelco system includes two warning labels that attach to each side window, warning of the device, and no vehicle with the Ravelco system has ever been stolen.. What happens if a tow truck tries to steal my vehicle? If you follow these 2 simple steps when you leave your vehicle, they can't! 1) When you park your car, turn your wheels all the way to the left or right. 2) Remove the Ravelco plug. In the event a tow truck tries to steal your vehicle, the angle of the wheels will make your vehicle track in a big circle. This attracts attention . . . and no tow truck driver wants to tow a vehicle that is traveling beside them two lanes away! This will make the tow truck driver look for an easier target. Does the Ravelco protect the things inside the vehicle? No . . . and neither does an alarm or any other type of anti theft device. If a thief sees a briefcase, a coat, a telephone, or anything else inside the vehicle that he wishes to steal, he can break a window, take the item, and be gone within seconds. Nothing in the world can stop a smash-and-grab thief! |
